[ RL: Devit; Shito | Backdated to late November/early December idk orz]
Devit was nervous. It was clear in the quick glances he aimed at Shito, his stiff step, and the way he clutched the strap of the black messenger bag he'd slung over his shoulder like it was a lifeline. He'd done is best to pretend like nothing was different or special about this, despite the fact that he'd even dressed nice. (Well, nice by his standards, anyway, which included black PVC pants that were slashed at the thighs and a dark, gray, zip-up vest.) He'd almost managed to convince himself before they left the dorms, in fact, but the longer they walked, the more his confidence dropped, it seemed.
What the hell did he know about dating, anyway? Nothing at all! Sure, they'd gone to the movies a few times--an option Devit would have happily gone with, if he'd had any money--but this was different, as much as he tried to pretend otherwise. This was him trying to do something nice for Shito, maybe even impress him a little with how thoughtful and creative he could be. This was him trying to be that... 'r' word.
Romantic.
Ugh, even thinking about it made him cringe and shudder. What the fuck had put such a dumb, harebrained thought into his head? Being sleep-deprived and lonely and watching black and white films at four in the morning? Ugh...
This was stupid. He was stupid and not nearly as creative without Jasdero, and Shito would surely realize it and laugh at him and--fuck it. This was going to be a fucking disaster.
Unfortunately, it was a bit too late to turn back, as they fast approached their destination. After a few more moments, Devit stopped and gestured ahead of them.
"Well... We're here!" he announced. Apparently, 'here' was a large park that featured an expanse of trees, the leaves of which had only recently changed to autumn shades of gold and red.
Devit cast a sidelong glance at Shito, waiting for his reaction.

But he picked up on Devit's nervousness as they walked, and started to wonder just what he was so worried about. That started him feeling more and more paranoid that the reason Devit was worried was because he was taking him somewhere that Shito wasn't going to like, and that started getting him angry.
So when they stopped at the edge of the park, he looked around suspiciously for the catch.
"What is this?"

Fuck fuck fuck, this really was stupid, wasn't it?

He looked away, gritting his teeth, then stepped close and grabbed Devit's hand. "Let's start over," he said, trying to calm down.

He couldn't quite understand why they were here. Devit wouldn't bring him to a leaf-turning viewing, would he? He just didn't know what to expect.
no subject
He didn't make a move to enter the park, opting to pout and refuse to make eye contact instead.
no subject
"Why did you bring me here?" he asked quietly. "Really?"
no subject
"Anyway, it was just a stupid idea, we can go home now," he said quickly and turned to leave, his cheeks burning.
no subject
He just really hadn't thought Devit would be so sensitive and appreciate beauty, that he'd just scoff at the idea of doing something like that. And so having no idea what was expected of him, he'd felt off-balance and confused.

"I'd like to do that with you."
no subject
"Yeah?" Apprehension fading, he grinned and then walked ahead of Shito, leading him into the park. "Well good! We can stay 'til it gets dark. The trees light up or something when the sun goes down, and there are supposed to be tables in the center of the park, so I figured we could eat there..."

He was oddly even more touched by that.
"I don't think it's dumb at all," he said.

He turned his attention to the leaves and frowned in thought. The appeal was kind of lost on him, though he did have to admit they were the most colorful autumn leaves he'd ever seen, or the most colorful ones he'd ever paid attention to, at least. He tried to remember what the leaves in Edo looked like on his world but couldn't seem to picture them.
"Guess they are kinda nice..." he mused.

He let go of Devit's hand and stepped off the path, picking up a leaf that had turned a deep, perfect crimson before it fell, and hadn't yet gone brown or dry.
"Isn't that beautiful?"
no subject
"It's nice," he agreed, and it was. For a leaf, anyway. He glanced up at Shito curiously. "You really like this stuff, huh?"
no subject
Maybe Devit wouldn't - couldn't - get it. But maybe he'd start to understand a little.
no subject
After a moment, he grabbed the other boy's hand and began walking again. "We'll come back in spring," he said. If it was important to Shito, then they'd do it, even if he didn't get it.
no subject
Still, he could enjoy this in the moment.
"So you said there was food somewhere?"
no subject
"Mm? No, I said there were tables," he clarified, grinning. "I brought the food."

They came to a clearing, where several picnic tables were scattered about, their surfaces covered by fallen leaves. Devit led Shito to one that was a bit out of the way, near a large maple tree. "How's this?"

He trailed off as he looked into his bag and saw a flower setting on top of the pile of sandwiches, now beginning to wilt. Shit, that part was supposed to come before all this, wasn't it?
no subject
"What's wrong?"
no subject
Damn it... Should he give it to Shito or just throw it away? It was practically dying as it was, but he'd gone through the trouble of finding where the damn things grew just so he could give him one. And maybe it was the epitome of lame, but Shito seemed to like lame, and he liked these flowers, so that basically cancelled the lameness out! Right?
"Eh..."
no subject
"Well? What is it?"
no subject
"Here," Devit said. He was cringing again, like it was almost painful to be doing this, but he was actually preparing himself for the strange look that was sure to come.
no subject
"Thank you," he said, very softly, and looked up at Devit, smiling. "Thank you. This is all...really thoughtful. I don't know what to say."
no subject
It felt good to know he was doing something right--really damn good, in fact--and he grinned uncertainly, shrugging in response. "Eh... Say you're happy?"

"So you're not suspicious of me anymore? I can surprise you like this?"
no subject
"Yes, you can," he said decisively, smiling. He hadn't thought Devit was capable of something like this, but now that he knew, he wouldn't be nearly so wary next time. "But don't use that as an excuse to play a prank on me next time," he added severely.
