Devit wasn't much of a planner (nor was he much of a thinker in general, really), so when he found himself standing outside what he hoped was Shito's door, he wondered what the hell he was doing there.

Jasdero wasn't too far away, of course. Not ones for subtlety, they opened a door in the middle of a hallway, and it stood for anyone to see in all of its conspicuous glory, with just-as-conspicuous Jasdero keeping watch over it. He waved when Devit glanced at him, and Devit stuck his tongue out in response before turning back to the door.

Maybe he and the zombie could trash talk the douchebags they hated on the community or something. That was as good a reason to come as any, right?

With the barrel of his gun, he knocked on the door.

Devit looked in the direction of the shelf and then pushed himself away from the bed to get a closer look. He'd been wanting to see these dolls for a while... mostly because he thought it was funny as hell, but also because he was kind of curious.

They weren't exactly what he'd expected, though.

Cocking an eyebrow, he plucked one of the figurines off of the shelf and turned it over in his hand. "What, these things?"

Shito's hands twitched with the effort not to snatch it out of Devit's hand and put it back.

"Yes, these things," he said tightly.

Scooting over again, he plucked it from Devit's fingers and placed it back on the shelf, precisely where it had been. He took a moment to adjust it minutely, so that the light caught the figure just so, then sat back again.

"You wouldn't believe how hard I've worked to collect the whole set," he said passionately, beaming at the figures.

Devit blinked as Shito adjusted the figure just so. Was he seriously that anal about it? Devit was almost tempted to switch them all around the next time the zombie wasn't looking, just because.

For now, he leaned in to look at them closely again, totally not getting it. "What's so great about them? They look like carnival toys or something."

Shito scoffed at this expression of ignorance and began to show off each in turn, discussing how he'd acquired them and how many of each limited run had been manufactured. Some had come with chocolate packages and others were prizes in various contests. Some of them were worth quite a bit of money because of their rarity, while others he had spent far more than they were worth trying to track it down.

If Devit let him prattle on, he'd probably go for hours.

Devit blinked some more, because that was all he really could do. After a while, he started to tune Shito out. Boy was freaking obsessed.

"Okay, okay, I get it," he finally said when he couldn't take it anymore, cutting Shito off. "You're a crazy collector. I should've figured," he added as he looked around the cluttered room.

Shito stopped talking when Devit finally cut him off, blinking slowly with disappointment. It was rare that he could share his love of the items he collected, and as he might have expected, Devit didn't really give a shit.

He set the one he'd been showing off back down and adjusted it until he was happy with its position, then sat back on the bed against the headboard.

"I don't expect you to understand," he sniffed.

Devit looked at him and then back at the shelf, frowning. They were just toys, for crying out loud. Were they seriously that important?

Moving back towards the bed, he half-leaned, half-sat against the mattress and folded his arms. After a moment, he somewhat hesitantly asked, "What about the rest of this stuff?" and then immediately regretted it. He wouldn't be surprised if every stupid nicknack in this room had some kind of life story...

They were, in a way, the only things Shito had. He'd become obsessed with owning things he'd collected himself, because he was given everything he ever wanted - except freedom and the ability to choose what he did.

He shrugged faintly and lifted his chin. "Do you actually care? Some of them have funny stories, but they're just silly things. My silly things."

This put Devit in an awkward position. No, he didn't actually care, but it wasn't like he was trying to upset Shito, either. (Not right now, anyway.) He wished he'd brought Jasdero in with him. He liked little toys, and he was better at having conversations.

Sometimes.

Devit scratched his head. "I dunno," he said with a shrug, then turned to look at Shito. "Why the hell do you collect so much, anyway?"

Shito opened his mouth to answer the question, then closed it with a frown. No one had ever asked him that question before, and he wasn't really sure he could articulate it.

"I just like them," he said uncomfortably. "I like getting things. Like the thrill of opening packages, not knowing if you're going to get the one you're missing, or if it's going to be something you already have 10 of."

"But what do you do with them after?" Devit wondered.

Shito blinked. "Do? I don't do anything with them. I just display them." He gestured to the shelves. "What else would I do?"

"I dunno." Devit shrugged again. "Play with them or something? Make little Betty doll armies?" he added with a grin.

Shito rolled his eyes. "They're not toys. They're collectible items. If I played with them, I'd probably damage them."

He reached out and picked up a larger one off the floor, rubbing at the permanent marker that Toho had put on the face. He'd tried everything to get it off. "No one really gets it," he said irritably. "Toho thinks it's funny to do this kind of thing, because he knows I don't want them damaged."

"Yeah well, he's a dick," Devit replied, his expression darkening. Never mind the fact that he might've done something like that himself to annoy Shito... He was finally starting to get the idea that the zombie probably wouldn't see the humor in it, though. Like, at all.

Maybe he wouldn't rearrange the shelf after all.

The only reason Shito didn't think Devit would do something like that was because he didn't think Devit was as much of an asshole as Toho. He gave one last ineffectual swipe of his sleeve over the plastic, then set the doll down again.

"Yeah, he is a dick." He looked up at Devit and smiled. "So why don't you like Kuroro Lucifer?"

Right at the moment, he didn't really want to think about Toho more than he had to. He'd already had the memory of his last encounter with him rubbed in his face once today.

"Eh?" Devit blinked at the sudden topic change and cocked and eyebrow. "Why don't I what now?"

Shito shrugged. "Just a vibe I got. It seemed like you were upset about something when I told you what he said to me."

He shifted. "So what now?"

Devit shrugged. He just didn't like the guy. Since when did he need a reason?

He glanced at Shito. "What do you mean what now? What now what?"

Shito spread his hands, eyebrows rising. "Are we just going to sit in here and talk about my figurines all day? I would have thought you'd get bored."

"Well, you're the one that started talking about them in the first place!" he said defensively. "I was just... humoring you or whatever."

He pushed away from the bed. "I guess that's it."

"You asked me about them first," Shito observed, blinking as he watched Devit move away.

"That's it?"

"Only 'cause you pointed them out!" Devit countered. He shot a glance over his shoulder, stopping on his way to the door.

"What, you got something else to say?"

Shito frowned. "Nothing in particular. But you came all the way here for nothing, I guess."

"Well, I was gonna help you blow a hole in your computer," he said. "But since you changed your mind..."
