[OOC: ADVICE NEEDED]
Sup gaiz~ Still on hiatus and will be until May 9th (except for the virus this Thursday, SHHH), but I'm looking for some advice. As you may know, I am now Jasdero-less (DON'T FEEL BAD TIF, SERIOUSLY, ILU OKAY), and I ran into a bit of a problem the last time this happened. In fact, I ended up dropping Devit because I wasn't sure what to do, BUT I WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN THIS TIME. For one thing, he's my main (and only) character right now so I'd be leaving DDD if I dropped, and for another thing, I've grown kind of super ridiculously attached to the derp, so dropping is not an option.
SO. If you don't mind, I'd like to run a few options by anyone that cares to listen. :|a (You may remember I did this last year but never went through with anything because I couldn't make up my mind, sob.)
ANYWAY.
1. THE EASY OPTION: Continuing on as if nothing had happened. Jasdero is still around, but he's just not posting to the community. I get permission to NPC him when events happen, yadda yadda... This is definitely the easiest way to go. The problem I ran into last time, however, was the fact that blanket NPCing isn't an option, so I'd have to get permission every single time I wanted to use him, which... may be a lot. Since the assassin event, Devit is clingier than usual because he does NOT want to be caught defenseless ever ever ever. So. There's that.
2. THE DIFFICULT-BUT-COULD-PROVE-INTERESTING OPTION: Jasdero is gone! The community has stolen him away, as it is wont to randomly do to some members. I think this could be interesting! It would force Devit to actually form relationships with other people or... idk, die. The biggest problem with this is that... his bond with Jasdero is, like, everything. Having that severed would be so, so, so hard for him, and in the end, it will likely change his character a lot. I mean, HIS LITERAL OTHER HALF WOULD BE GONE. THAT'S LIKE LOSING A PIECE OF YOUR SOUL. IN FACT, IT KIND OF IS. PRETTY MAJOR, YOU KNOW? Change is inevitable.
I didn't go with that option last year because I thought it would be nearly impossible at the time. He didn't have much CR, no one could be there for him, lalala... It's a little different now. It may be difficult to pull off, but it could be fun, assuming people would be able to bear with him while he adjusted (IT WOULDN'T BE PRETTY).
3. THE RIDICULOUS OPTION: I pick up Jasdero and playercest the hell out of Jasdevi. No, I'm kidding. I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT.
4. THE HARDER-THAN-IT-SOUNDS OPTION: Enable the shit out of someone to apply for Jasdero! ...Only that's what I did with Tif, and I don't want to enable someone into playing a character they may not want to play. Let's face it--Jasdero may be a simple character, but it's the fact that he's simple that makes him so hard to play. (YEAH, I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WORKS, EITHER.) Jasero players are so hard to come by, anyway. Even if we did get another one, it probably wouldn't be for a while. 8(((
TL;DR HEEEEELP MEEEEE thank you <333

Unfortunately, I don't think anything like that would happen any time soon. ;3;

Option 1 means that any person who might app Jasdero in the future will have to have some idea of what you've been NPCing, or (alternatively) you'll have to kind of handwave away any major CR or plot events that might happen before the new player picked him up. Obviously this wouldn't be a problem if someone from DDD eventually apped, so you really only have to worry about new players. (Though, let's face it: new players apping such an important character to a long-time player are rare butterflies.)
Option 2 means that any new player who apps Jasdero in the future will probably be like "WTF?" at first. Of course, like I said, the chances of a non-DDDer apping him are kind of low, unless you talk someone into it, and you'll have explained Devit's changes to them. On the plus side, you'd get to have Devit stretch his legs and develop some serious, meaningful CR with other characters, which is always fun.
Option 3 is actually probably the easiest, actually, but you don't actually want it so that leaves...
Option 4 is your next best option, but you'd have to be REALLY INTENSE ABOUT IT. Are you a bad enough dude?
Personally, I like option 2 the best, but I'm a sucker for CR and I'd gladly throw Emo at him to shout encouraging internet memes from afar. And/or actually be helpful.
SO THERE'S SOME TL;DR FOR YOU, I HOPE THAT WASN'T OUT OF LINE OR ANYTHING. :X

Option 2: I think I'm leaning towards this option, just because it would get him out there and give him a chance to create relationships that go beyond the surface. It may cause some WTF reactions from potential castmates, but... I think it would be more fun for me, honestly. :|a
Option 3: I had seriously considered this at one point, but there are just some relationships that aren't fun to playercest, and I think this is one of them. They have a unique bond; playercesting would be easy, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as rewarding for me as a player. I love their relationship, and getting the chance to play off of someone else would be way more fulfilling than doing it myself.
Option 4: I DON'T THINK I AM. I don't like enabling people! Not only that, but it'd have to be someone who was on a similar wavelength to get the best results, I think! Like I said, their bond is unique, but it can also be interpreted in different ways. SO BASICALLY, I'M BEING SELFISH, BECAUSE IF I'M GOING TO HAVE A JASDERO, I WANT THEM TO AGREE WITH ME. :BBB I think it's essential when you have two characters like this, personally.
I think I like option 2, also! I'll keep thinking about it, and in no way was that out of line. I really appreciated it, in fact! <3

1. is hard. Harder than you'd think. For a while in CFUD I had a Jasdero who was very inactive through no fault of her own--she had life stuff, and I don't blame her a bit. He was there but wasn't THERE to play with. And in my experience that's extremely difficult to do, and I know my experience isn't everyone's, but I would actually consider that the HARD option rather than playing Devit alone. It's hard because it . . . kind of ends up resembling #3! As Devit develops, you will have to NPC Jasdero's reactions to that, and this can be extremely limiting. You'll also have the problem of Devit choosing to spend more time apart from Jasdero than he perhaps should. Like, if there IS no Jasdero, it's inevitable for Devit to constantly be independent and doing shit on his own, but if there IS a Jasdero who's not being played, that means Devit is making the conscious choice to be away from him and develop beyond him and you also have to make the call on how Jasdero is reacting to that, etc. I know I got crit once for Devit being "too independent" when we had a Jasdero, when the reason why he was was because she was on hiatus and I didn't want to just stop playing my primary character for weeks on end. With the development thing, you get stuck with "Okay Devit's going on a date/killing someone/making enemies/making a new friend, how would Jasdero feel about this, I need to incorporate that into my play and account for all their interactions in my head," and that gets super trying.
OBVIOUSLY DDD DOESN'T WORK LIKE CFUD DOES. So if the system here makes it easier to account for all that, and you think it's a good option for you, go for it! Because the alternative has SOME MAJOR DRAWBACKS too. But it really is harder to handwave a relationship that close than you might think, and you reach a point where it's like "I might as well app him myself." It's not as fun.
2. I mentioned this has drawbacks AND IT DOES. As I think you know, this is what I ended up doing, and I don't regret it at all, but whether it'll work for you depends on some factors. When you're playing him without a Jasdero, it's really, really inevitable that he will change, exactly like you said. Playing him like this is a matter of how okay you are with that. I don't think it's impossible to keep him IC--obviously, or I would never have apped him myself--but it is impossible to keep him canon, and if you want to play him close to canon, you can't really play him this way and manage that. It's possible to play DEVIT still, but when his situation changes that much . . . well, yeah. In my RP CAREER I've played Devit for two years, one of which was without a Jasdero, and I honestly would not expect people who stumbled across him randomly in CFUD tomorrow to think he was IC. Not because I think I'm OOC, but because SO MUCH HAS CHANGED, and it's tweaked him in all sorts of ways that would not have happened had he had a Jasdero for those two years (or at least not a quickly).
SO in the end choosing this option is like, how okay are you with that! We're different players, and I'm not trying to insinuate "oh yeah you'll go OOC" because that's not true (YOUR DEVIT IS WONDERFULLLLL). But you will have to step away from canon. Personally I LOVE that in RP, which is why I apped him in the first place. But not everyone does, and there's no "right" way.
PART TWO
4. . . . this is incredibly hard to do, sadly, sob. I only JUST got one after a year without. I WOULD SUGGEST DICKING AROUND IN THE DGMDR, MAYBE, because obviously we have Jasdero players who love playing him and dude someone might want to be yours someday! And you can advertise in the OOC comm! But yeaaaaaah. I feel you here.
TL;DR (and I bet I have to split this up into two comments too HA HA), uh, good luck, I THINK YOU CAN DO IT, YOU'RE AWESOME and I am rooting for you \o/ It can be done! It can be fun! But your path really depends on what you're comfortable with both personally and in terms of game mechanics.
Re: PART TWO
With Miko being quite a bit less active than I am, it's been tough with Shito for some of the same reasons why option 1 would be tough for you. We haven't managed to achieve a lot of the CR between Shito and Chika that we honestly SHOULD have, because it's so rare that we really get to play them together. And a lot of the time I've had Shito leave his world and go interact with people when I've worried that he really wouldn't go because he wouldn't have Chika there and therefore is vulnerable.
Thankfully for Shito, he's way more independent naturally than Devit is, so it's a little easier for me. But still, I second CFUD!Devit in saying that option 1 is tough at times.
As for option 2, I think it has the potential to be epic and interesting, and I think you should go for it. I think you should be prepared to get crit sometimes, similarly to how I've gotten crit for Tyki. Like... people looking at Tyki without seeing how far he's come from canon and not really getting why think I'm being OOC, and you just have to accept that and be secure in the reasons why you've made the choices you have and in the development that you go with him. If you think that you can do that, which I KNOW you are a good enough player to do, I think you'll have no problems and it'll be super interesting to play through.

Re: PART TWO
You're not aloneRe: PART TWO
I've thought about the crit thing before. I think I'd be all right with it. Fortunately, I'm much more secure with the way I play Devit than I ever was with Phoenix, so I'm not constantly going "OH GOD AM I DOIN' IT WRONG" all over the place, and I did deal well with some crit I got for Phoenix in the past, sooo...
Thank you, bb. <333 IF I DECIDE TO DO THIS, would you mind if I picked your brain a bit at some point? I'm going to think really hard about it, and I want to make sure that what I decide to do will make sense.

1. Mm, yeah. You're right. In fact, I think what you described is what went through my head the last time I was in this position, which is why I ended up not going through with it. DDD's format would make it a little easier to pull that kind of thing off, I think, but... honestly, I love the relationship Devit and Jasdero have, and if I'm going to play it out, I'd rather have someone to play it out with me than NPC it. That's nowhere near as fun, you know?
2. Dude, HAVING CHARACTERS GO THROUGH CHANGES IS WHAT I RP FOR. That's what's fun to me! XD My main concern with going this route is whether or not I can pull it off, though. I'm worried I'd go too far or not far enough, BECAUSE IT'S A HUGE THING, AND HE'S OBVIOUSLY NOT GOING TO "GET OVER IT" JUST LIKE THAT, AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW. But I also don't want to be like ANGST ANGST ANGST WITH A SIDE OF ANGST. I mean, I love me some angst, but too much is tiring to play and tiring watch being played.
But... I think I am leaning towards this, if only because I love developing him. It really is too much fun, getting inside of his head and figuring out how he'd react to things. AND THE IDEA OF PUTTING HIM THROUGH THIS TRAUMA IS VERY APPEALING, I have to admit (sob I am a sadist). Stepping away from canon is not a big deal to me, either. OUR CAST IS IN A WEIRD PLACE TIMELINE-WISE, and with chapters coming out monthly now... Well, I honestly don't know if we'll ever get back on track, SO WHY NOT HAVE SOME FUN IN THE MEANTIME.
4. I know, sob. I'm sort of hesitant to enable anyone else, though. I don't want to end up with someone who's doing it JUST because I enabled them, and--THIS IS ME BEING SELFISH HERE--I also wouldn't want to end up with a player that has different ideas on how their relationship works. I did that once before. She was a GREAT Jasdero, don't get me wrong, but our ideas about their relationship didn't completely line up, so I don't think we had as much fun as we could have had.
ALSO, I AM VERY SCARED OF THE DGMDR, SO WHILE THAT IS A GOOD IDEA, I DON'T THINK I COULD BRING MYSELF TO DO IT. 8|;;
TL;DR I THINK I'M LEANING TOWARDS OPTION 2, BUT I WILL THINK ABOUT IT SOME MORE. Thank you so much for stopping by and offering your advice! I seriously, seriously appreciate it!

2. AWESOME THEN--yeah, me too. XD I've met people who don't, I've actually known people who will drop a character as soon as that character begins to deviate, and I don't understand the mindset at all, but I also wouldn't call it wrong; they're just different ways of approaching RP. If you're not one of those people, taking a character like Devit and breaking him a little and seeing what you end up with is a ton of fun, so that would be my biased suggestion. Shito's right about the crit thing, but I think that as long as you're confident and consistent, it shouldn't be anything you can't handle. Different interpretations are different interpretations, OUR DIFFERENCES MAKE US BEAUTIFUL ETC. XD When you have rationale and canon basis for your choices you're pretty much set, even if someone else is making equally valid choices that are very different. As I tend to see with Devits a LOT.
and lolol canon. Don't get me started on canon and updating Devit and ahhhhh. YOU PAIN ME HOSHINO
4. I know what you mean--I've been lucky enough to find not one but two Jasderos whose ideas mesh well with mine, and even then small adjustments still had to be made between them, and they could just as easily have been major, major problems if I'd paired up with a Jasdero who didn't share my views on How Jasdevi Works. It's that whole interpretation issue again, where they're really minor and I know players who do XYZ aren't WRONG, but it's also not what I'd choose, and ahhhh. I have been very lucky, and it took me a long time. XD
IF I PLAYED JASDERO I'D APP HIM FOR YOU BUT WELL. He's hard. GOOD LUCK, and whatever you do, have fun \o/ AND I'LL BE WATCHING OOWOOOOOO

BUT YEAH LOOK AT ME.
That being said, Tieria and Regene are a totally different kettle of fish in every way (what with the NOT being joined at the hip and one of them not knowing the other even exists...), so yeah. BUT. I did play Maru and Moro from xxxHoLic together, and while they would have been fun to bounce off each other, their ...one-ness is tiring to RP with a separate person.
I have a fifth option, actually, if you're interested. You play both of them, but if there's a specific thing that you wanted to RP between the pair of them, you hand over the reins to someone else for that thread. :|a
...or you know we just ask everyone on ddd if they'd like to play jasdero.
